FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY WILLIAMS TO MALCOLM COWLEY on the front free endpaper: "Malcolm Cowley from W.C. Williams, 1923." An ALS by Cowley laid-in notes that "Bill Williams inscribed this copy... & gave it to Matty Josephson to pass on to me (1923). Matty kept it for seven years, until the fire in which he nearly lost his life [cf. the account in Life Among the Surrealists]. He found the book considerably damaged amid the ruins of his apartment & passed it on to me at last, at last (1930)." Wallace A7.
