woodcut, 1515, with a Double-headed Eagle in Crowned Cartouche watermark, a good impression of the fifth or sixth edition, lacking the text above, with thread margins outside the border, a small brown stain just inside the lower border, a short tear at the upper sheet edge, minor soft creasing, a central drying crease visible on the reverse, generally in good condition

Lot Essay

The subject of this famous print was a gift from King Muzafar of Cambodia to King Emmanuel of Portugal. The first specimen to be seen in Europe in modern times, it arrived in Lisbon on 20 May 1515.
