The shaped square stepped bases each with the knopped baluster stems, each terminating in a spool shaped socket, later engraved with two crests, marked underneath and on one sconce

The crests are those of Crawfurd and Stirling, for William Stuart Stirling-Crawfurd (1819-1883), of Milton, co. Lanark. Stirling-Crawfurd was both a Justice of the Peace and a Deputy Lord-Lieutenant. He married Caroline Agnes (d.1894), widow of the 4th Duke of Montrose and daughter of the 2nd Baron Decies. He died without issue and his estates passed to his half brother James Crawfurd-Stirling-Stuart (1825-1887). (2)
