Circular, the independent cover enamelled with a still life of roses and lilies, within a border chased with husks, shells and foliage on a matted ground, the base engraved with an inscription
2 in. (51 mm.) diam.
The inscription reads: 'This box formerly belonging to the Lady Mary Wrottesley was given by The Honble Frances Lady Wrottesley to Julia Lady Wrottesley Sep. 2d 1827'

Lot Essay

This box was presumably given to Julia Wrottesley (d. 1860), daughter of John Conyers of Copt Hall, Essex, second wife of John Wrottesley, second Baron Wrottesley (1798-1867), landowner and astronomer, by her mother-in-law Frances.
