Lot Essay

This is after François Dumont's posthumous miniature painted in 1814 (see P. Jean-Richard, Miniatures sur ivoire. Musée du Louvre. Musée d'Orsay, Paris, 1994, no. 213, and B. Hofstetter, 'François Dumont, peinte de la Cour', Le Pays Lorrain, vol. 76, no. 3, July-September 1995, p. 194, fig. 9). Another miniature after Dumont was sold Christie's, London, 7 December 2004, lot 258.
