Sir Christopher Robinson was the eldest son of nine children of Dr. Christopher Robinson, rector of Albury, Oxfordshire and Wytham, Berkshire. He matriculated from University College, Oxford in 1782 and then graduated from Magdalene College in 1796 with D.C.L. Intended for the church, he transferred his attentions to the law and specialized in maritime law and entered the college of advocates on 3 November 1796. In 1809 he succeeded Sir John Nicholl as king's advocate and was the leading counsel in the admiralty court. He served as M.P. for Callington, Cornwall and in 1828 became a judge of the High Court in the Admiralty division and was created Privy Councillor.
He married Catharine, eldest daughter of the Rev. Ralph Nicholson and had five children, three sons and two daughters.
