Lot Essay

The current work is a portrait study for the life size memorial to Augustus John at Fordingbridge, 1967 (see P. Cannon-Brookes, Ivor Roberts-Jones, London, 1983, p. 48, no. 45, illustrated). The Augustus John Memorial was Roberts-Jones' first full-scale commisison and it brought him his first taste of public recognition.
