Alastair Grieve comments on the present work, '[it is] long in relation to [it's] height, suggesting the expansiveness of the sea. Sharp ridges of waves run from top to bottom rather than horizontally, as though cut out from a larger continuum, and are gathered together about one third of the way along the slabs, the rest being left smooth' (The Sculpture of Robert Adams, London, 1992, p. 128).
