Lot Essay

The present work is one of four works where Barker customized the image of the Mona Lisa. Barker visited the Louvre and bought four small reproduction canvases of the Mona Lisa. In this work he rolled emulsion paint across the canvas partially leaving an area of the face. In the three other works, Barker covers one completely in white emulsion, one with black paint and one is bandaged apart from Mona Lisa's lips.
