The last and least commonly seen of Bonheur's three thoroughbred and jockey studies, Retour au pesage was exhibited at the Salon in 1886 under the title 'Un Jockey' (no. 3535). The group portrays a victorious jockey and his mount returning to the winners' enclosure. The model was almost certainly edited initially by Peyrol, as with Bonheur's earlier two studies on the same theme, but as the stamp on the present example indicates, a later edition was also cast by the d'Estray foundry.
