Lot Essay

Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) aprì una fonderia a Parigi a partire dal 1838 dove eseguiva opere che riproducevano capolavori dall'antico e dal Rinascimento. Queste due placche appartengono ad una serie di quattro allegorie dei fiumi della Francia che copiavano quelle della Fontaines des Innocents a Parigi, (1548) opera di Jean Goujon che celebrava re Enrico II. Nel 1858 la fontana venne rimossa ed è allora che probabilmente Barbedienne si ispirò per riprodurla nella sua fonderia
