Alain Lovenberg was born in 1950 in the small Belgian Ardennes village of Durbuy, virtually at the gates of Liège, where gunmaking has been practised since the 16th Century. As he says himself "I entered the world of engraving almost inevitably."
He has practiced the art in his home village since 1972, and is now considered to be one of the top five engravers in the world. He works almost exclusively for the gun makers Lebeau-Courally and Hartmann & Weiss, two makers whose products are of the highest quality. If he accepts a commission to engrave it will take between four and five years from the final design stage to completion of the finished product. He has exhibited examples of his designs and works internationally in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Sweden, and the United States of America. His work has been written of consistently over the years in books and periodicals.

Lot Essay
The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed in 1985. This rifle is in excellent condition and appears to have had very little use.
