1923 BUICK VICTORIA

Registration No. DS 8285
Chassis No. 904095

Engine: four cylinder overhead valve, 3500cc; Gearbox: three speed manual; Suspension: semi-elliptic leaf springs front and rear; Brakes: two wheel mechanical. Left hand drive.

For the 1923 season, Buick substantially improved their models' styling, with domed front and rear wings, and more rounded coachwork equipped with scuttle mounted side lights and drum headlights. In keeping with the new design a new radiator grille also debuted, which would remain a feature of Buick cars for four years. In this year Buick would see its one millionth car built, as production for the model year increased by 60 percent over 1922 to exceed 180,000 units, and a modified model Sports Roadster Six was timed at 108.24mph on a run at Muroc dry lake in California.

In this year, the four cylinder cars continued to be offered with various body styles, the car on offer here featuring a well-proportioned Two Door touring sedan coachwork by Fisher that allowed seating for four persons. This particular model 38, with body number 4690, would originally have been finished in maroon.

This rare example is presented in good and older restored order, having been imported from the United States in 1990 following a restoration by the long term American owner. All the usual refinements associated with the special order 'Victoria Coach' include polished wood surrounds, velour cloth seats, carpets, chrome door furniture, cut glass flower holder, split half-opening windscreen and two-tone paint scheme. Other extras include wooden artillery wheels, cowl side lights, nickel surround headlamps and a separate rear mounted trunk. Purchased by the current owners in 1997 and enjoyed and maintained by them until taking it off the road in 2002, lack of space unfortunately means the Buick now has to find a new home.
The Buick has been carefully stored since last being taxed and MOT'd in 2002, however it is reported by the vendor to be in running order. A small file of documents and pre restoration photographs accompany this lot.
