Pio Ricci was a portraitist and genre painter who was born and died in Florence. He was a student of the Accademia di Belle Arte in Florence, and predictably showed most of his works there, though he was known to have exhibited in Turin also. The Gallery of Arezzo has three of his works entitled 'Portrait of Turini', 'The Institute of Brotherhood' and 'The Roman Cardinal, Inghirami'. The artist was incredibly skilled at painting detail. He exhibited this most successfully whilst observing the fabrics in the dresses of his subjects which are on a par with those of Charles Soulacroix. Many examples of his work have appeared at auction such as 'Entertaining the guests' which was sold in these rooms in April 2003.
