A LATE 19TH CENTURY GERMAN SILVER INKSTAND,
CIRCA 1880,
Of shaped outline with rounded ends and projecting pen depression to front, the latter with shell and bearded mask decoration, the curved centre surmounted by a baluster inkwell embossed with "C" scrolls and foliage, either end applied with seated classical figures, one a woman with torch, the other a youthful warrior with sword, each figure with foliage behind , the stand raised on similar scrolling foliate feet, length 16½ in.(42 cm.), 62 oz.
