The Mother of God in a variation of the iconography of the Jerusalem Virgin, is surrounded by the busts of the Prophets who were the ancestors of Christ. They hold their attributes and they stem from flowering branches, reminiscent of the Root of Jesse. On the reverse of the frame there is a hand-written dedication in Greek, according to which the ex-Patriarch of Jerusalem, Nikodemus, sent this icon as a blessing to a certain Mrs Eulalia John Eliaskou. The inscription is dated 30th March 1906. - 6¾ x 8¼in. (17 x 21cm.)
