This example of Brandt's 1924 'Altesse' model was previously in a private home in Auvergnes, and was said to have been acquired in the late 1920s directly from the Sandoz showroom where it was prominently featured. It is believed to have been a unique commission.
The present console was illustrated in an advertisement for the Beaux-Arts Shade Company of New York in the September 1927 issue of Arts and Decoration (U.S. edition), p. 109.
The standard size of the 'Altesse' model, featuring two supports instead of four, was exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, Paris, 1924. It was promoted in both the Galerie Edgar Brandt, Paris, and the Ferrobrandt, New York catalogues, priced at 9,125 francs or $1,400.
