Lot Essay

cf. A. Claiborne, 'A Musical Modern Decor,' Arts and Decoration, vol. 45, (November 1936) pp. 22-24 for a suite of dining room furniture similar to lots 407-409. Both suites utilize strong rectilinear lines relieved by boldly figured rosewood veneer. The article describes the furniture as 'designed by that most eminent of ultra-contemporary architects and decorators, Ely Jacques Kahn.'

This and the following two lots were commissioned by the family of the present owners directly from the artist.
