FIRST EDITION. THE ONLY KNOWN COPY OF THIS RARE PAMPHLET, FROM THE COLLECTION OF SIR HAROLD HARTLEY, member of the executive committee of the 1932 Centenary Exhibition, where this copy was exhibited: 'the present copy is the only one available'. Not in the British Library, nor the British Union Catalogue (COPAC); no copy recorded in Dodgson at Auction 1893-1999. The only reference to it is in a letter to Mary Collingwood dated 20 February 1861 ('will be out this week, I hope'; Letters p.48); unseen by Abeles for her The Mathematical Pamphlets of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. In his preface Dodgson writes: 'the following List of Subjects with its accompanying Cycle has been drawn up as a guide to the Student in choosing examples to work. They are so arranged as to secure his giving the most attention to those which are most important. Space has been left at the end of the Cycle for recording, at the close of each day's work, the point reached in it'. Williams, Madan, Green and Crutch 28 (this copy).
