PRE-PUBLICATION COPY DATED IN DODGSON'S HAND: 'July, 1881'. Dodgson was constantly re-writing the rules of Lanrick, a game played on a chess board, to make it more interesting. Four editions appeared in 1881 alone; all, including this second edition, are 'rare' (Williams, Madan, Green and Crutch 142; listing the third edition).
