PRESENTATION COPY, the half title inscribed in purple ink, "Mary Frances Fuller, with the affectionate regards of her old friend the Author. Oct. 1882." A rare copy of Through the Looking-Glass in a presentation binding, inscribed by Dodgson to Mary Fuller, a "girl-friend", subject of his photographs and recipient of his poems. The vellum-style presentation binding is one of a small group known on volumes inscribed to close friends of Dodgson's (e.g. the dedication copy of Alice's Adventures Underground inscribed to Alice Liddell in 1886. Only one other inscribed copy of Through the Looking-Glass in a presentation binding is recorded at auction since 1975.
