Château Latour--Vintage 1959
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Levels: one upper and one upper/mid shoulder; damp stained labels, one nicked labels, one cut capsule, château branded and vintage stamped corks
Incredible aromatic life! As expected hints of Cedar, but more more surprising was the massive wave of cassis like fruit and red roses! Classic Latour grip. There is bright enough acidity to preserve this wine well into the next century. Not a wine for mere mortals...I'm lucky indeed tonight. Perfectly balanced in a way that Napa could only dream of...This is the total package. Out of this world experience! Tasted from magnum, October 2003. Also, earlier that year in June, this time from standard bottle: mature cedar, tobacco leaf, sweet fig like fruit, silky grip, incredible viscosity. A completely different experience to that of the 1961. This wine is heavenly. From Rudy's Legendary Latour Magnum dinner. Anthony Hanson hosting w/myself and Ian Mendelsohn present. Unfortunately, Frederic Engerer, expected to preside over the event, was stranded in a Denver snow storm, grounded and couldn't attend 10/03 ST
