A MASSIVE CLOISONNE ENAMEL AND GILT-BRONZE CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY

The central medallion to the cover finely decorated with a tall vase, a bird-feeding dish, and flowers, fruits, and utensils symbolising luck and prosperity, all arranged as a still life, the sides with four quatrefoil panels each framing one of the flowers and birds of the four seasons, chrysanthemum, peony, prunus and lotus, each divided by repousse gilt dragons amid champleve clouds in openwork, the rims and medallion encircled by a raised key-fret band
17 3/4 in. (45 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A closely related box and cover with a different design was sold in these Rooms, 26 April 1998, lot 559. Another one was sold in our London Rooms, 17 June 1985, lot 414.
