FINE AND RARE GERMAN WINES
We are delighted to be offering the following expansive selection of German wines, covering many of the great vintages of the 20th century and featuring the greatest vineyards and estates of Germany
Most of the wines were sourced from private collections within Germany and this sale represents a rare opportunity to purchase examples of some of the finest sweet wines available
Examples of a number of the following lots will be available for pre-sale tasting on the 30th November
A PRIVATE COLLECTION FEATURING THE 1727 APOSTELWEIN
Rüdesheimer Apostelwein--Vintage 1727
Rheingau. Ratskeller Bremen
Lot 1 believed pre-20th century bottling. Lot 1 has a re-waxed capsule
This wine is drawn from the famous Bremen Ratskeller which, from time to time, is topped up by young Rüdesheim wine of a good vintage. The large volume of old wine is thus kept refreshed. It is usually offered in half-bottles, so the full bottle lot is particularly rare
Tasting note: This can justifiably claim to be the oldest drinkable wine in the world. Several consistent notes: palish amber-straw; bouquet rather like an apply old sherry; fairly dry, flavour of toasted old straw, tolearable acidity. M.B.
