Tra le motivazioni del decreto si sostiene che "il dipinto, di ottima qualità, può essere attribuito con quasi assoluta certezza al pittore 'fiorante' anversese, la cui opera è alquanto rara, soprattutto in Italia (Firenze, Pitti, ne possiede un piccolo esemplare su tavola, Venezia, Accademia, una 'Vanitas')".
