Siamo grati al Dottor L. Peijl, che su base di fotografie a colori e bianco e nero, ha avanzato l'attribuzione del presente dipinto al noto e prolifico paesaggista fiammingo Lucas Achtschellink, datandolo agli anni 1660-1670. Tipica per la pittura di Achtschellink è l'esecuzione dei cervi e delle capre, delle rocce e del canneto (cf. Y. Thiery e M. K. de Meerendré, Les peintres flamands de paysage au XVIIe siècle, Bruxelles, 1987, pp. 150-154, ill.).
