Lot Essay

The present picture is thought to be identifiable as the copy mentioned by Wethey (see literature), formerly in the Leichtenstein Collection.
The picture derives from the right wing to the tryptich dated 1522, commissioned for the altar of the Santi Nazzaro e Ceiso, Brescia, where it still hangs.
