Card tables were widely made throughtout Federal America, due primarily in a response to the increased popularity of card-playing as a favored past-time of the wealthy. The demilune form was the most common form, particularly in Massachusetts. Rarely surviving in pairs, these tables are further distinguished by elegant mahogany veneers, a subtle syncopated bead treatment along the lower edge of the skirt and fluting down the square tapering legs.
