Lot Essay

Sam Maloof, one of America's preeminent contemporary woodworkers, has crafted furniture since the 1940s. The smooth, sculptural quality of his creations developed over the course of his career and now stands as the hallmark of his designs. His furniture is included in many museum collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
