Hollow cast, the stylized head with deep eye sockets, perhaps originally inlaid, a tuft of hair between the budding horns, a scrolling band around its neck, the bands at the bottom of the neck perhaps facilitating the attachment

Lot Essay

The object appears to have served as a decorative finial, perhaps ornamenting part of a chariot (compare pl. 107 in Piotrovsky, The Ancient Civilization of Urartu: An Archaeological Adventure).
