The Beatles And Others
Ten ½ inch reel-to-reel tapes of out-takes from the recording session for the pre-taped soundtrack for the T.V. special Around The Beatles, recorded on April 19th, 1964 for the broadcast on April 28th, 1964, the tapes include the group chatting and various takes of the songs performed on the programme:
Twist and Shout, Roll Over Beethoven, I Wanna Be Your Man, Long Tall Sally, Can't Buy Me Love, Love Me Do, Please Please Me, From Me To You, She Loves You, I Want To Hold Your Hand and one song Boys which was not included on the T.V. special; also various takes by co-stars on the programme including Cilla Black, P.J.Proby and Long John Baldry; and a ½ inch reel-to-reel tape of out-takes from the recording session of The Cathy McGowan Show, July 30th, 1965, each in original box, three with handwritten labels (12)

Lot Essay

Although the acts in Around the Beatles gave the appearance of a live performance, they were in fact miming to a pre-taped soundtrack. All the musical participants in the production assembled at the IBC studios on Sunday, April 19th, 1964 for a 10.00am - 8.30pm session. Second engineer/tape op. was Glyn Johns, destined to be engineer/producer for the Beatles' Get Back/Let It Be album.
