The arched crest of this chair, with its scrolling elements, is occasionally found on New York chairs from the late 17th and early 18th century, as seen in a chair in the collection of the Museum of the City of New York, illustrated in V. Isabelle Miller, Furniture by New York Cabinetmakers 1650-1860 (New York, 1956), p. 18, cat. no. 13.

A related chair, illustrated in the Decorative Arts Photographic Library (DAPC), Winterthur Museum (no. 71.473), exhibits a similar arched top with squared crest and scrolled terminals, similarly turned front stretcher and closely related turned stiles and legs.
