The design for this table and accompanying portable top appears first in Gillows' Furniture Designs, where it was referred to as a "Sheveret" table (see Lindsay Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800 (Bloomfield Press, 1995), ill. no. 45 (fig. 1).
