Illustrated in the catalogue of Early American Silver, Furniture and Exceedingly Rare Sheffield and China from the Collection of Dr. Samuel W. Woodhouse, Jr. (April 1928), this table is listed as an "Early American Tea Table Formerly the Property of Thomas Sully, F.T.S. Darley to Owner." Woodhouse, whose estate sale also included two Sully portraits, Mr. and Mrs. Griffin, most likely had a relationship with Darley and acquired these pieces directly from the Sully family. For further information on Sully and Darley, see preceding lot.
