A rare early Märklin U.S Market handpainted tinplate fort
Cat. Ref. 8136 (1245), large semi-rectangular 8.5cm. deep base painted in grey green stone block effect with gun slots, parade ground surface in sandstone and grass, surrounded by outer castellated walls and buildings, two circular front corner towers in mottled brown and random stone effect, castellated top keeps, a centrally positioned pillared gateway with hinged iron gates and drawbridge, painted one side in timber effect, the top surface being sand, gravel and grass edge to match handpainted approach road section; the main central building and guard room surmounted by two further towers, first square then a circular central lookout, two further outer rear square towers either side of main building painted in a different light stone blocks; all buildings, towers and walls with castellated terracotta and cream battlements, main building fitted with hinged doors and glazed windows painted in various stone effects and wood grained for doors and detailed window surrounds, fitted with flagpole with large billowing U.S. Stars and Stripes and model approach ramp section painted in washed shades of green and brown, with sand gravel road shaped to form incline to drawbridge and sloped side banks -- fortress with drawbridge 60cm. long, 40cm. wide and 53cm. high, ramp 40cm. wide, 21cm. deep and 5.5cm. high, circa 1895--1908 (mostly VG-E, some damage and wear, rear central mid square tower back wall crudely cut and folded into building, some solder seams split and temporary repairs to stabilise, some glazing missing, minor bending and paint damage to some castellations)
