ZIND-HUMBRECHT
This collection offers a bevy of vintages going back to 1989 covering the SGN, VT and dry wines of the legendary Alsatian winemaker, Olivier Humbrecht, MW. At recent tastings, the 1991 SGNs are very nearly mature with Olivier pulling out a miracle of no mean ability despite a rainy and difficult vintage. Besides great dessert accompaniments or most globbingly, unctuous dessert unto themselves; they can make marvelous enhancers of cheeses, charcuterie, pate and many other delectables as these wines mature, unfold their complexity and become better integrated. Moving forward, 1994 was a ripe, concentrated vintage with exceptional late-harvest wines, while the structured 95s and expressive 96s struck liquid gold for the drier wines as well. These selections come from a highly knowledgeable connoisseur with an intimate knowledge of Z-H and its history. Bought upon release, many in original carton, this selling was necessitated by having more wine than one could be possibly drink despite the ability of Zind-Humbrecht wines to age effortlessly. Low yield intensity and Olivier's ability to tease out nuances of terroir make a sampling across the different vineyards advisable from the bidder's stance.
