Cal 27-460 damascened nickel 37 jewel movement with free sprung Gyromax balance and 18ct gold winding rotor, brushed silvered dial with raised batons and subsidiary seconds, in circular case with screw back and down turned lugs, together with a copy of extract from the archives stating the watch date of sale was 28th June 1962 and was originally supplied with gold bracelet, case, dial and movement signed

The vendor was in New York at a dinner hosted by Mel Blanc where the American actor, Kirk Douglas, was also a guest. When it came up in conversation that the vendor was a watch collector, Kirk Douglas took the watch off his wrist and presented it to him. This is confirmed by a letter from Dr H Crott of Auktion Dr. H Crott in Frankfurt.
Kirk Douglas, born in 1916, is a well known Hollywood actor and star of the film Sparticus. He is the father of Michael Douglas who is married to Catherine Zeta Jones.
