signed Rolex Oyster Chronographe, case no 47802, ref. no 3525, circa 1940
nickel 17 jewel movemement with bimetallic balance, black dial apllied half hour Arabic numerals with baton marks between, outer 5 minute divisions with Arabic numerals, subsidiaries for running seconds and 30 minute register and luminos gilt batons hands, in tonneau shaped case with polished bezel, screw down crown flanked by plain cylindrical chronograph pushers, screw on back and extended down turned lugs, together two copies of two picture of Sqn Ldr McKenna with one of his captives and one with his Squadron, 1993 copy of his obituarie from the Daily Telegraph, case, dial and movement signed

Squadron Leader Frank McKenna b.1906-d.1993, tracked down almost all the German officers responsible for the murders of 50 British prisoners of war after the "Great Escape" of 1944 from Stalag Luft 111 Silesia. When news of the murders reached Whitehall, Antony Eden the foreign Secretary announced that the Goverment was firmly resolved to track them down to the last man. McKenna a squadron leader with the Special Investigation Branch was sent out to Germany in September 1945 to fufil Edens pledge. This heroic story was immortalised in the 1963 the "Great Escape" and is sold by direct descent of original owner.
