The present timepiece was almost certainly made pre-pendulum. Evidence to support this lies not only with the early style of the frame but also a tell-tale vacant hole in the centre bar which would probably have originally been used for the potance of a verge pivot for the original foliot escapement.
The use of double hour strike was a common practice on the Continent but it was rarely used by English clockmakers
