The case with raised panel to the double-footed plinth, solid mahogany breakarch trunk door, the hood with brass-reeded canted angles flanking the door with ogee moulding, the top with single brass finial on a concave-moulded pedestal, the thick silvered brass regulator dial with large diameter seconds ring, finely sculpted blued steel hands, the arch with revolving painted moon with its age displayed in a recessed window below, large brass latches to the dial feet, further latches to the six pillars securing the substantial brass movement plates, the high-count train with Graham-type deadbeat escapement, all wheels with six crossings, the painted brass moon sphere receiving indirect worm-and-wheel drive from the centre pinion, the massive steel and brass nine-rod gridiron pendulum suspended from a thick brass A-frame secured to the mahogany seatboard, the backplate signed John Smitheys London, brass-cased weight and six-spoke brass pulley, original(?) crank key with turned ebony handle and chamfered brass shaft
