The silvered dial signed and numbered VICTOR KULLBERG MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY, THE INDIAN & ITALIAN GOVERNMENTS 105 Liverpool Rd. London No. 9090 and with the Government Mark, Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials, blued steel hands, top-plate with the Government Mark and numbered 9090, reversed fusee, Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with Kullberg later form of auxiliary, palladium helical balance spring, Kullberg reversed spring detent with jewelled locking stone, brass bowl engraved to the underside with the Government arrow and H.S.1, gimballed in plain three-tier mahogany box, ivorine plaque to front of middle section inscribed V. KULLBERG TWO DAYS 9060 and with the Government Mark, recessed flush brass handles

This chronometer was purchased by the Royal Observatory, Greenwich in July 1917, after which it was held between various dates at the Admiralty Chart and Chronometer Depots at Hong Kong (1917-1921), Portsmouth (1923), Malta (1927), Plymouth (1929-1933) and Malta (1934).
The entry in Kullberg's original Order Book 1913-1919 ref. 14538/6, 25 June 1917 (Guildhall Library) reads;
With reference to the 15 chronometer you have ready the Admiralty are prepared to purchase same at £42.00 each. The chronometers to be delivered July 20th '17. Payment to be delayed until the Astronomer Royal is satisfied with their performance. Full transcripts of the Kullberg Order Book, Shop Day Book and Kullberg's Manufacturing Book will be sold with this lot.
