Abraham Prime Londini Fecit. Circa 1675
The case with boxwood and ebony star parquetry to the plinth on later bun feet and also to the rectangular trunk door with ebony-framed lenticle, cross-banded olivewood oyster-veneered sides, convex throat moulding beneath the rising hood with ebony twist columns and later frieze fret, the 9¾ in. square brass dial signed Abraham Prime Londini Fecit on the silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre with ringed winding holes and subsidiary seconds and calendar aperture, winged cherub spandrels, the massive three train movement with seven latched ring-turned pillars, anchor escapement, quarter chiming on four bells via three hammers and pin barrel mounted on the backplate with steel detent spanning across the backplate to trip the hour countwheel on the inside of the strike barrel, bolt-and-shutter maintaining power
