CIRCA 1540-50
Painted with Narcissus and Echo in a wooded river landscape, the foreground with the naked Narcissus gazing at his reflection in a pool to the left, the centre depicting the death of Narcissus with flowers springing from his head, lying with his head resting on Echo's lap, her arms up-stretched in grief and two attendants consoling her, the right with a paler version of Echo in a similar pose behind two female attendants, surrounded by rocky outcrops and trees, a city on the banks of a river beyond before distant mountains, within a blue line and ochre band rim (foot lacking, broken through and restored)
