Contemporary tree calf, spines gilt, speckled edges (hinges cracked); cloth folding case. Provenance: early ownership signature and manuscript notation on p. 148 of volume I; Alice Marion Trusted (bookplate); Carol Atwood Wilson (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, first state of F1 on volume II, with "Thy fnuction" in the last line. Vol. I, p. 148 has a manuscript correction in an early hand to line 12: "And tremble, seeing whence proceeds the strength." Ashley VIII, pp.12-14; Wise 8. (2)
