IV with upper margin renewed, pp. 43 to 46 and pp. 49 to the end of part 6 erroneously bound at the end of part 7 and vice versa.) Crushed levant gilt by G.P. Putnam's Sons, t.e.g., others uncut except no. II, which is trimmed and inlaid to size, all original front wrappers and some back wrappers, trimmed and inlaid to size, are bound-in.

FIRST EDITION, First Printing of Parts 1, 6 and 7 (parts for which multiple printings have been identified by BAL). Irving's Sketch Book contains the first appearance of two classic American short stories: "Rip Van Winkle" (in Part I) and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" (in Part VI). BAL 10106.
