Jedidiah Huntington (1743-1818), who filled in and signed (four times!) the document, was a distinguished Connecticut veteran of the Revolution, having served from 1769 in the state militia and risen to the rank of Brigadier General in the Continental Army. In 1789, he was appointed Collector of the Port by Washington.
