Original printed wrappers, closed with two contemporary broad brass staples. Provenance: William Sylvanus Starring, the author (signature on title, annotations); by descent to the present owner.

FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK PRINTED IN WYOMING, one of approximately 50 copies only. On the front wrapper of this copy is written: "Fort Laramie Dakota Dec 1866" in a contemporary hand. Also included is an early linen-lined envelope into which this copy was folded and stored, with manuscript note stating that it is Capt. Starring's dictionary. Not in Streeter.
