Hand-colored engraved allegorical frontispiece, title printed in red and black, 28 double-page engraved maps, outline-coloring IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND interleaved with accompanying indices, woodcut headpieces and initials. (A few maps loose, or with marginal tears.) Contemporary half calf and boards (portion of lower cover missing, wear to edges).
Seutter's Atlas Novus, first published with 16 maps in 1720. The finely colored maps include the World and the continents. Seutter was apprenticed to J. B. Homann in 1687 in Nuremberg, then worked as an engraver for the publisher J. Wolff in Augsburg, before setting up his own map and globe business in the same city.
