According to Bob Wooler, Brian Epstein undertook a number of major promotions around Merseyside in 1962 and 1963. ...Following the success of [his] Tower Ballroom promotion on 26 July 1963, which he called "Northern Sounds '63"...he mounted a "Southern Sounds '63" show at the same venue, scheduled for 30 August 1963... however Epstein became so swamped with commitments for The Beatles to appear on t.v. shows, tours, concerts, interviews, recording sessions etc. that he didn't have time to go ahead with the 'Southern Sounds '63' promotion and despite having had posters silk-screened and tickets printed for it, the show was cancelled. Wooler recalled that as a result of this cancellation Epstein offered him The Rolling Stones for 70 - the same fee he would have paid them if they had appeared at The Tower ...That's how they came to play The Cavern on Tuesday evening, 5 November, 1963...
