Gilt and painted in colours with the Rothschild Bird pattern on each side, depicting three birds perched on branches with pearl-necklace garlands, further with butterflies, scrolled acanthus handles, the cover en suite

Lot Essay

The Rothschild Bird pattern was first created in 1850. Baroness Rothschild supposedly lost het pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. The necklace was found by her gardener who saw birds playing with it in a tree.
